Ryder Cup Winners
Ryder Cup Winners Since 1979
In 1979, the Ryder Cup Matches were opened to European golfers, with a European team replacing the previous Great Britain team. Although the US team won the 1979 tournament, its near total domination of the competition was broken as top European golfers joined the field. In the 2006 Ryder Cup, Europe took its seventh win – against the USA’s total of six wins – since 1979.

Ryder Cup Winners before 1979
The period from the end of World War II up to 1979 saw Great Britain win the Ryder Cup Matches only once, with a tie in 1969. The legendary Arnold Palmer captained the US team in 1963.
In 1967, Team USA set the record for the biggest winning margin in the Ryder Cup, defeating Great Britain 23.5 to 8.5 – a margin of 15 points.
