Rose focuses on Ryder Cup qualification
Justin Rose has committed himself to the battle to claim a spot in the European Ryder Cup team by choosing the Johnny Walker Championship ahead of the of the Fed Ex Cup playoffs in the United States.
Rather than aiming for a big payout in the PGA Tour's season finale, Rose is looking to earn the points he needs to qualify automatically for the European Ryder Cup team at Gleneagles this week.
"It's only money; you can't take it with you," Rose said of his decision to place the prestige of playing in the Ryder Cup ahead of an appearance in the potentially lucrative PGA Tour event.
Following a 34th place finish at last week's KLM Open, Rose is under pressure to rack up the points required to make the Ryder Cup team, and will need to outperform the likes of Ross Fisher, Oliver Wilsom and Martin Kaymer to secure automatic qualification.
“My missus will be upset with me. I told her I'd play well and see her tomorrow," Rose was quoted as saying on the PGA website. "It's Plan B. It was not on my schedule to play these two weeks in Europe, but I came to do a job. It could be a fun week. It should be another windy one, which I'm looking forward to - not!"
