Singh wins playoff at Barclays Classic

Vijay Singh claimed his fourth Barclays Classic title on Sunday by defeating Kevin Sunderland and Sergio Garcia in a sudden death playoff.

Garcia, Singh and Sunderland finished the fourth round of the 2008 Barclays Classic tied on 276 after overtaking overnight leader Kevin Streelman, who finished the tournament in 4th place.

Both Garcia and Singh managed to birdie the first playoff hole while Sunderland was eliminated. Singh then birdied the second playoff hole while Garcia only managed a par after hitting his tee shot into the rough.

"It was a tough day," Singh said at the conclusion of play. "Nobody had a two-shot lead at any point. It was a tough day, but it was a great playoff. I enjoyed that.  I love New York, it's a great place, great tournament and hopefully I can top it off again next year."

Garcia, meanwhile, was left disappointed after once again losing out on a major tournament title at the last moment.

“You can't take it the wrong way,” Garcia told Reuters. “I think the most important thing about it is that I keep putting myself in a good position. Unfortunately somebody just seems to be able to come up with some spectacular playing."
