US take 9-7 lead into final round of Ryder Cup

The United States Ryder Cup team will go into the final day of the tournament with a 2 point lead over their European opponents.

The score at the close of the second day of the 2008 Ryder Cup was 9-7 to the Americans, leaving the European team with the tough task of having to outscore the Americans by at least three points in Sunday's singles matches.

The European Ryder Cup team came out with guns blazing in Saturday morning's foursomes, taking 2.5 points to the United States' 1.5. With a point pulled back in the early session, the Europeans also put in a solid performance in the fourballs, drawing the session 2-2 with their opponents.

"It has really been amazing," Azinger said at the close of play. "The crowd's out of control, the golf's amazing. My stomach is just churning."

The final day of the 2008 Ryder Cup will see all 12 players from each team contest 12 singles matches. Sunday will mark the first time since 1995 that the United States Ryder Cup team enters the final round of the Ryder Cup with the lead.
