2008 Ryder Cup Matches | European Tour | Miguel Angel Jimenez

Miguel Ángel Jiménez was born on 5 January, 1964 in Spain. He took to golf at the age of 15 and turned professional in 1982. He entered the European Tour in 1988 and within a year had established himself as a golfer to be watched. His first tour victory was at the 1992 Piaget Open in Belgium, after which he rose to 14th in the European Order of Merit list.

In 1994, he won his second event at the Heineken Dutch Open. This pushed him up the money list and led to his first invitations to the three US Majors. He missed out on the 1997 Ryder Cup, but was an important vice captain to Seve Ballesteros.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez emerged victorious in the Trophée Lancôme in 1998 and, the following year, in the Turespaña Masters. He rose to fourth place in the Order of Merit and kept the position in 1999. His international status rose significantly from then on. In 1999, he became the first Spaniard to take home the trophy for the prestigious Volvo Masters. He also debuted at the 1999 Ryder Cup Matches, which the European Team lost to the Americans.

In 2004, Miguel Ángel Jiménez placed fourth on the Order of Merit and won four European Tour events. He was also part of the winning team at the Ryder Cup. Keeping his momentum in 2005, he went on to win the Celtic Manor Wales Open and the Omega Hong Kong Open, another European Tour event. He won the Omega again in 2007.
