2008 Ryder Cup Matches | European Ryder Cup Captain | Nick Faldo

Legendary Ryder Cup golfer, Nick Faldo, will captain the European team in the 2008 Ryder Cup Matches at Valhalla Golf Club. He will be facing his work colleague and rival on the greens, Paul Azinger – due to captain Team USA in the matches.

About the appointment of Azinger as the US team captain, Nick Faldo had this to say:

“I played in three Ryder Cups when Paul was in the opposing side, and for the last two years we have worked together commenting for the ABC network. I feel that we have respect for each other both on and off the course, and I am certain that we will both enjoy the challenge of captaining our respective Teams at Valhalla”.

Nick Faldo was only 20 when he became the youngest team member in the 1977 Ryder Cup Matches, a year after turning professional. He holds the Ryder Cup records for the most number of points and matches won in the competition, and for the most appearances – a total of 11 – on a Ryder Cup team. He saw his team win the Ryder Cup Matches in 1985, 1987, 1989, 1995 and 1997. Faldo is also one of only six golfers ever to have scored a hole-in-one at the Ryder Cup Matches.

As the European Ryder Cup captain, Nick Faldo will be looking to assist Team Europe in gaining a fourth consecutive victory against the Americans. With the best of the best Tour players on both sides, the 2008 Ryder Cup Matches are sure to provide some of the most exciting golf of the season.
